During the tumultuous years leading up to the outbreak of the American Revolution, Christian and Tamanend Maier, two brothers from rural Pennsylvania, pursue their goals to become physicians. We follow the two young men as they endure the grueling hours their training requires, revel in their accomplishments and agonize with the sufferings of their patients. They at last reunite in the outskirts of Boston during the days leading up to the deadly fighting that would become known as The Battle of Bunker Hill. On that horrific day of battle, their skills and talents would be needed for the men who fell and the country they loved.

I love historical fiction so i was looking forward to reading this one. I found myself laughing and squealing and cringing and really feeling the characters' experiences.(that's not so common these days)We follow two young brothers in their adventures with great insight into the history of medicine and the perspective of the healer.
Great read. I love historical fiction. This certainly met my expectations. The medical doctor's perspective was particularly interesting and informative. Medical practice was depicted in great detail and certainly helps us appreciate how far we've come. Set in the American revolution, the political conflicts for two brothers with opposing views was fascinating and relevant. It helps one appreciate that political polarization has been a fixture of America politics since the founding of our country. .
